Geoteaming™ is an incredible team building experience, based on orienteering and the world-renowned sport of Geocaching. Geoteaming™ groups work together and in competition with other teams, using a high tech navigation device like a Global Positioning System (GPS), to locate specific targets within an area. Geoteaming™ also incorporates other fun gadgets common to the family of orienteering sports, like digital cameras and two-way radios. It combines teamwork, technology, and outdoor adventure to create a modern day treasure hunt. Teams will begin the hunt by mapping their course of action, searching for visual and written clues to guide them in the right direction. Working together, the team executes a strategic plan to complete established objectives and reach their final destination.
Geoteaming™ requires each individual to recognize how their own unique assets will contribute to the success of the group. For example, group members who are natural navigators and possess a keen sense of direction may be put in charge of map reading, while team members with great verbal skills may need to facilitate communication on the radios.
This orienteering adventure demands collaborative thinking, thorough planning, and cooperative behavior. The lessons garnered from an afternoon of Geoteaming™ can be directly applied to the dynamics in a work environment, friendship, or family relationship. As we constantly encounter varying people in our lives, this activity serves to remind participants that each person has distinct characteristics, unique backgrounds, and diverse experiences. And it is because of these differences that each individual can supplement the success of the group in their own special way.
